Sadanand Venkataraman, an M.Tech student associated with the Cognition Lab, recently presented his team’s research in sports cognition at two major international platforms. The team’s joint efforts in collaboration with Dr. Sundarakumar KB. Bharathi Malakuredi and Dr. Santhi Natarajan highlighted SNU Chennai’s growing influence in the international community.
In July 2024, the team represented SNU Chennai at the ANZIAM MathSport Conference, a special event organised by the Australian and New Zealand Industrial and Applied Mathematics Community (ANZIAM). Known for bringing together sports scientists and mathematicians from Australia, New Zealand and beyond, the conference provided a dynamic forum where the team presented a novel approach developed as part of the Cognition Lab’s efforts to empower athletes through sports cognition and artificial intelligence. In their presentation, they highlighted how traditional development of athletes relies solely on physical characteristics and presented a methodology to assess an athlete’s cognitive abilities as part of the scouting and development process in football. Building on the momentum of ANZIAM MathSport, the team returned to speak at the MathSport Asia Conference hosted by the Indian Institute of Management Udaipur (IIMU) this December. MathSport Asia is dedicated to advancing the application of mathematics, statistics and data analytics to improve sports management, performance analysis and coaching strategies in the Asian context. At IIMU, the team’s latest findings extended the original framework by integrating proof-of-concept and large-scale language models (LLMs), demonstrating the potential of AI-powered techniques to improve the athlete scouting and development process.
Shiv Nadar University Chennai takes great pride in this achievement and eagerly anticipates many more such initiatives from its students and faculty.
