Dr. R. Hemalatha, Associate Professor in the department of ECE, SNU Chennai, has 18 years of teaching experience. She received her B.E. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Periyar University and M.E. degree in Communication Systems from Anna University (with College Gold medal). She obtained her Ph.D. degree from Anna University for her research on Image transmission in WMSN. She was also a visiting researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, USA under Pro. Raj Reddy, focusing on advanced AI tools for research and education. Before joining SNU, she served at SSN College of engineering, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai and AKCE, Srivilliputhur. She has received funded projects from SPARC, DST SSTP and SSN trust. Project by her team titled “Efficient IoT enabled Plant Disease Detection System” was exhibited under the theme Agriculture & Food Processing at the IInvenTiv 2024, India’s premier R&D Innovation Fair. She has supervised 2 Ph.D. scholars, guided over 35 undergraduate and postgraduate projects and 14 Student Internal Funded Projects sanctioned by SSN Trust. Her research interests include Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks, Image Processing, IoT, Edge AI and Smart Agriculture. She has one granted Indian patent, 19 peer-reviewed journal publications, 32 conference papers, a book, and a few book chapters. She is a member of IEEE, and Life member of ISTE.
