Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Research Methods in Development Studies and Public Policy

The Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Research Methods in Development Studies and Public Policy aims to equip faculty (teachers and researchers) with essential methodological tools to analyse and evaluate development policies effectively. This program covers key quantitative and qualitative research techniques, data analysis methods, and policy evaluation frameworks to enhance participants’ research capabilities. Designed for faculty members, researchers, and policymakers, the FDP provides hands-on training in empirical research, statistical modeling, and impact assessment. Participants will engage in interactive sessions, case studies, and discussions led by experts in development economics and policy research. Policy Studies is a multidisciplinary field that focuses on the design, analysis, and evaluation of public policies. This Faculty Development Program (FDP) aims to provide the participants with advanced knowledge of policy frameworks, methodologies, and contemporary issues to empower them in conducting research in this critical area. By bridging theoretical insights and practical applications, the program intends to foster innovative approaches to understanding and addressing complex policy challenges.

Objectives

The FDP is designed to:

  • Enhance participants’ (faculty) understanding of Development studies and public policy frameworks.
  • Equip young faculty with tools for policy analysis, impact assessment, and evaluation.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary teaching approaches and integration of policy studies into various curricula.
  • Develop research competencies in the field of Development studies and applied field.
  • Develop a network of peers and experts for future collaborations.
  • Gain practical insights into evidence-based methodology, enabling them to contribute more effectively to academic research and policy advocacy.

Target Audience

This FDP is aimed at:

  • Faculty in Colleges/University/Research Institutions or administrators who are planning to introduce courses in Public Policy, Governance, Development Studies.
Program Duration
  • 2 days, with 6 hours of daily engagement, interactive lectures and discussions
  • Hands-on workshops and group activities
Pedagogical Approach

The FDP will combine lectures, workshops, and interactive sessions, incorporating;

  • Theoretical Modules: Expert Talks: Insights from policymakers, think tanks, and academic leaders. Workshops: Hands-on sessions on policy research, data analysis, and policy evaluation.
  • Group Activities: Collaborative problem-solving exercises focused on policy challenges.
