The awareness programme was held on February 20th 2023 from 1:50 pm to 3:30 pm at the mini auditorium at SNU Chennai. The event commenced with the singing of the ‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’. The welcome address ensued and the students were introduced to the chief guest, Mr. Samaran Thamarai, who is an animal rights activist and founder of the non-profit organisation ‘LIFE’. Mr. Thamarai held an enlightening awareness session on animal cruelty by interacting with the students and asking them questions on moral issues. He then proceeded to show an eye-opening short film on the cruelty to farm animals. He raised insightful questions on the treatment of animals and morality of the actions done on animals and compared them to the moral issues he had brought up at the beginning of the session. He proceeded to tell the students about veganism and the vegan lifestyle and encouraged the students to follow a cruelty free lifestyle. A vibrant question-and-answer session was then held, which was very interactive and brought up many valuable points on the treatment of animals and the ethics and morals involved. The session concluded with the vote of thanks and Mr. Thamarai distributed to the students a card with information on his non-profit ‘LIFE’.
