UGC has instructed HEI to observe Special campaign 4.0 for Swachhata during October 2024. In view of this, the NSS unit of SNU Chennai embarked on protecting the environment for making the earth a better life for Olive Ridley turtles. This was done through taking up beach cleanup at Kovalam Beach, a portion of Bay of Bengal. The beach clean-up was in association with Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI), an NGO focusing on wildlife conservation and environment restoration. The campaign saw the participation of around 50 NSS volunteers. After assembling at the beach, the volunteers were given gloves, bags and other safety equipment and were informed about the cause for the clean-up, the Olive Ridley Turtles. The volunteers were briefed on instructions to ensure safety during the clean-up. The volunteers took a quick snap with the trash and dispersed.
