June 12, 2025 – Shiv Nadar University, Chennai (SNUC), a progressive initiative by the Shiv Nadar Foundation in the field of higher education, entered a strategic partnership with the CSIR National Institute of Technology Thiruvananthapuram (CSIR-NIIST) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement establishes a mutual framework outlining the organizational relationships, responsibilities, and activities of SNUC and CSIR-NIIST for the collaborative research. It aims to leverage the expertise of both institutions for research, product development, and clinical validation. The roles and relationships defined herein provide the foundation for the programme’s execution
The MoU aims to foster academic excellence and innovation through joint efforts in areas such as collaborative research, academic program development, faculty and student exchange, and the organization of conferences, seminars, and workshops on subjects of mutual interest. SNUC will provide laboratory support for the research, including access to necessary instruments and technical manpower, and will offer quality assurance support upon request by CSIR-NIIST. Both parties will jointly apply for necessary regulatory approvals related to the collaborative project and extend mutual assistance in the process. Additionally, SNUC and CSIR-NIIST will co-apply for research project funding. CSIR-NIIST will be responsible for characterizing the prepared materials using techniques such as photoluminescence, UV-Vis-NIR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectroscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), aimed at validating the materials for applications including lighting, display, sensing, dark glow, security, and energy-related fields. This agreement is expected to significantly enhance the learning and research environment at both institutions by leveraging each other’s strengths, resources, and expertise.
The formal signing of the MoU took place between Prof. Sriman Kumar Bhattacharyya, Vice-Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University Chennai, and Dr. Nishy. P, Head Business Development Division, CSIR NIIST. Prof. Bhattacharyya expressed great optimism about the partnership, stating that it would provide students with exceptional opportunities to engage with top-tier researchers and gain exposure to high-impact academic environments. He emphasized that this collaboration marks a significant milestone in SNUC’s efforts to build a vibrant and globally connected academic ecosystem, enriching the educational experience and supporting research excellence. Dr. Nishy. P, in his remarks, underscored NIIST’s commitment to offering transformative education aligned with societal and industrial needs. He noted that partnerships such as this are vital for building a strong, skilled talent pool and play a crucial role in elevating India’s standing in the global education and research landscape.
Through this MoU, both institutions reaffirm their shared vision of academic growth, innovation, and knowledge exchange, laying the foundation for a long-term and impactful collaboration.
