The NSS volunteers of Shiv Nadar University, descended upon Cheppan Kuttai Lake on December 23rd, armed with a collective mission: to assess its environmental health and offer solutions for its continued well-being. Divided into teams, the volunteers scoured Thiruvidanthai, identifying pollution sources. Some challenges lurking beneath the surface are: stagnant water choked by algal blooms, plastic, glass debris marring the shoreline, invasive plants vying for dominance, and erosion gnawing at the banks The volunteers, undeterred, brainstormed solutions: aeration techniques to breathe life back into the water, waste management drives to reclaim the shoreline, targeted weed control to restore ecological balance, and natural bank stabilization using native vegetation to fortify the lake’s embrace. In safeguarding Cheppan Kuttai, urgent collective efforts are essential. From pollution to waste issues, a delicate balance exists between human activities and the environment. The Eco Stroll acts as a catalyst for positive change, emphasizing the need for sustainability, awareness, and stringent policies. Engaging communities and promoting responsible behaviour are pivotal for the lasting health of Thiruvidanthai Lake and similar ecosystems globally. This report serves as a call to action, urging a commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship for a resilient and preserved ecological legacy.
