Educational Qualifications
Ph. D. Environmental Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (2020 – 2025)
MTech Energy and Environmental Engineering, VIT University, Vellore (2018-2020)
BE Civil Engineering, Thiagarajar College of Engineering Madurai (2014-2018)
Dr. Angel Jessieleena A joined Shiv Nadar University Chennai as an Assistant Professor in August 2025. She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where her doctoral research focused on the quantification, characterization, and removal of microplastics and microfibers from diverse environmental matrices. Her work involved establishing one of the first microplastic monitoring and analysis facilities at IIT Madras, with extensive studies on microplastic contamination in lakes, wastewater and drinking water treatment plants, and indoor environments.
She completed her M.Tech. in Energy and Environmental Engineering from VIT University, Vellore (Gold Medalist), and her B.E. in Civil Engineering from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai (Silver Medalist).
Dr. Angel Jessieleena has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals. She has presented her research at prestigious international conferences including SETAC North America, SETAC Europe, and the European Geosciences Union (EGU) Assembly.
Beyond research, Dr. Angel Jessieleena is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and outreach. She has served as a teaching assistant for undergraduate and postgraduate environmental engineering courses, guided several student projects on microplastics and plastic waste management, and actively engaged in science communication through workshops, school lectures, and sustainability initiatives.
At Shiv Nadar University Chennai, she is initiating research at the intersection of environmental engineering and computer science and engineering. By leveraging computational modeling, data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning models, she envisions developing smart solutions for environmental monitoring, pollution prediction, and sustainable waste management. This interdisciplinary approach opens avenues to solve real-world environmental problems, fostering innovation at the convergence of technology and sustainability.
