Shiv Nadar University Chennai proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of its students at the BuzzOnEarth India Hackathon 2024, supported by Intel and IIT Kanpur. Team Zoeo, representing the university, triumphed among 2,200 teams from across the country, winning a cash prize of ₹50,000. The team demonstrated exceptional innovation and technical skills in addressing a crucial problem in sustainability.
The challenge posed by the hackathon revolved around the theme, “Application of AI for sustainable development of cities,” focusing on solving pressing climate-related issues at the city level. Team Zoeo rose to the occasion by developing AeroSense, an advanced web application designed to predict, monitor, and simulate air quality across major cities in India. The solution utilizes cutting-edge machine learning and deep learning techniques to forecast Air Quality Index (AQI) levels, enabling better decision-making for both individuals and policymakers on environmental health.
Their solution stood out for its accuracy, real-time capabilities, and the use of time-series forecasting, making it a valuable tool in combating air pollution, one of the most critical challenges faced by modern urban environments. The application not only reflects current air quality but also predicts future levels, empowering users with insights into the changing dynamics of city air. Additionally, the team’s exceptional user interface design ensured a seamless and intuitive user experience, and their integration of Intel’s technology was recognized as one of the best in the competition, further enhancing the solution’s performance and impact.
The team’s success was greatly supported by the mentorship of Dr. S Chandrakala, whose guidance helped shape their approach to integrating AI and environmental data effectively. Her encouragement and technical insights played a pivotal role in refining the solution and driving the team to success.
