The NSS and YRC units of Shiv Nadar University, Chennai organised an awareness program on “Overview of Intellectual Property Assets and Rights” on 19th February 2022. The started with an invocation The speaker was Shri. M. S. Bharath, Founder, KRIA Law. Shri.M.S. Bharath is sought after IP litigator and strategist. After 20 years of practice and 12 years of leading a regional office of a National Firm Bharath founded KRIA Law in March 2021. Since 2019 he is one of the Councilors of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) and currently serves as a member of India Global Advisory Council of International Trademarks Association (INTA) since 2015, Current President of IP Association of South India. In 2020, the Indian National Bar Association (INBA) nominated him as the Lawyer of the year for IPR. He was instrumental in successfully restraining unauthorized use of the famous Tirupati Laddu, a registered GI in India apart from registering national and international GIs in India including Tequila and Scotch.
Abdullah Sheriff (B. Tech AI&DS) introduced the guest speaker, who asked the volunteers what they thought about Intellectual Property (IP). He explained the jargon in the field of IP and elaborated on the types and uses of copyrights and patents. Then, he presented a few case studies and provided examples of IP assets in day-to-day life. He briefed the volunteers on how to commercialize their product and enforce intellectual property rights. After that, He mentioned ways to deal with copyright infringement and described some good practices to protect the rights of their own and other’s intellectual property. He also shared some interesting news in the field of IP. Towards the end, the floor was opened for questions. The session was quite interactive, the doubts raised by them were clarified. Finally, Judah proposed the vote of thanks.
