The seventy sixth Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotism on 15 August 2022 by the SNUC family on its beautiful campus. The event also was part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations marking India’s 75 glorious years of freedom. The celebrations started soon after the arrival of Prof. S. K. Bhattacharyya, the chief guest and the Vice-Chancellor of the University. The SNU Chennai choir sang the Tamil Thai Vazhthu and initiated the proceedings. The tricolour was then hoisted by the Vice-Chancellor. The assembled community marked their respect to the national flag with the national salute and sang the national anthem. In his Independence Day address, the Vice-Chancellor Prof Bhattacharyya exhorted the audience to be proud of their Indian heritage and to be good citizens and make India better in all counts using the knowledge and experience that the University education gives them.  After the VC’s address, a few patriotic songs were sang during which the volunteers went around and distributed sweets to all those who came to celebrate the Independence Day. The Students’ Activity Coordinator Dr. P. Venugopal thanked everyone in his Vote of Thanks address and the event came to an end by 9:30 am.
