Dr. G. Anushiya Rachel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Shiv Nadar University, Chennai. She has about 4 years of teaching experience and 6 years of pure research experience. She completed her B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering and M.E. in Applied Electronics. Subsequently she was a full-time research scholar and Project Officer at SSN College of Engineering. During this period, she was a part of projects funded by MeitY, Tamil Virtual Academy, and Murasu Systems Sdn Bhd, Malaysia. She worked extensively on text-to-speech synthesis and helped develop synthesizers for Indian languages and Malaysian Tamil, and has also worked on automatic speech recognition and emotional speech synthesis. Her PhD work focussed on estimating glottal closure instants from speech signals and she completed the same in the year 2019. She then went on to work as an Assistant Professor at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences and VIT Chennai, before joining SNU Chennai. She has over 20 publications in reputed conferences and journals, has worked on Samusng PRISM projects in the field of speech and language processing, and her team won first place at the Indian Language TTS Development Challenge 2020, organized by IIT Madras and CDAC Mumbai, for the development of a Tamil text-to-speech synthesis system.
