The NSS unit of SNU Chennai embarked on another endeavour outside campus to protect the Olive Ridley Turtles by participating at a beach clean-up organised at Neelankarai Beach. The beach clean-up was in association with Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI), an NGO focusing on wildlife conservation and environment restoration. The campaign saw the participation of more than 65 NSS volunteers. After assembling at the beach, the volunteers were given gloves, bags and other safety equipment and were informed about the cause for the clean-up, the Olive Ridley Turtles. The volunteers were briefed on instructions to ensure safety during the clean-up. The volunteers formed groupsand freed the sea-shore of 30 bags of waste, pledging to do more to protect the Earth’s beaches and the organisms using it, such as the Olive Ridley Turtles, in the future. The volunteers took a quick snap with the trash and dispersed. This was major clean-up drive and featured in the The Hindu.
