
Event Name :SNU Chennai Celebrates Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

Shiv Nadar University Chennai actively participated in Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) and celebrated 75 years of India’s independence with a variety of events. The various students’ clubs of the university spearheaded the festivities by coming up with a range of events.
The AKAM celebrations were kicked off by the MUN (Model United Nations) Society and the Voice Out Club on 1 August 2022. They jointly hosted a debate competition on the topic “Was it wise to adopt ahimsa as a way of struggle for independence?” The members of the participating teams debated on this topic revealing its depth and breadth with great zeal and enthusiasm.
On 3 August 2022, the student clubs set up three separate AKAM events. The Omnia Club, inspired by the nationwide Swachh Bharat Mission, presented an interactive talk for the participants to learn the basics of waste segregation and take a step towards a cleaner India. Capturesque, the photography club, conducted a Photography contest with the theme of patriotism. It attracted a lot of different views and spin on the word patriotism and its meaning for everyone. From the array of submissions, three winners were hand-picked and awarded. The Business and Quiz clubs collaborated with each other and hosted The Biz Quiz on the same day. This event had a different and interesting spin to it and was successful in gathering a bunch of participants. At the end of the event three winners were announced.
The English Literary Club had a prompt-based creative writing event. It was conducted online on 4 August 2022. All the entries were posted on the club’s socials for wider dissemination.
On 8 August 2022, Handila, the art club, had a fun-filled AKAM event called “Screw what you drew”. The participating teams were given words related to independence, and one member from a team was asked to draw while the others had to guess the word correctly.
The music club Isai had the Acappella event on 10 August 2022, in which bands sang patriotic songs and conducted some games. The eventful AKAM celebrations that lasted for ten-days ended with the event hosted by Mudivilli, the Tamil club. They presented a 3-minute Tamil patriotic speech that moved and inspired the audience a lot.
Overall, the many Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) events conducted by the various clubs of Shiv Nadar University Chennai instilled among youth patriotism and national fervour.
